(M. Sc.) (Chairman) Former Chairman & MD, Central Bank of India
The last assignment of Shri S. Sridhar was as Chairman & Managing Director of Central Bank of India, from March, 2009 to May, 2011 holding concurrent charge of National Housing Bank for 18 months during this period. He successfully piloted the Bank in migration to CBS platform. He oversaw the successful Rights issue of equity shares of Rs 2500 crore in April 2011. During his tenure the Bank recorded historic highs in profit and profitability, loan recovery, technology implementation, visibility and image, share price.
S. Sridhar, a renowned Commercial Banker, started his banking career with State Bank of India and later on he joined Exim Bank and rose to the rank of Executive Director, a position he held for five years. He was Chairman & Managing Director of National Housing Bank from April, 2006 to September, 2010.
During his tenure as Chairman & MD of NHB many new initiatives were introduced for the first time in India. These include Reverse Mortgage for senior citizens, NHB RESIDEX, Affordable Housing Concept,, Rural Housing Fund, Housing Microfinance, Interest Subsidy for Housing Urban Poor , Mortgage Repository and Electronic Registry etc. As ED of Exim Bank he was in charge of corporate banking, short term export credit, treasury, resources and inter national operations.
He has served and continues to serve on the Boards of many corporates as Nominee Director. He was a member of the Board of Life Insurance Corporation of India, and the Advisory Board of UTI Venture Capital Fund, amongst others. He is widely travelled and has been an invited speaker at many national and inter national conferences organized by the World Bank, UNCTAD, UNESCAP, Commonwealth Secretariat etc.
Sridhar had an excellent academic record and holds a M.Sc. (Physics) degree from IIT Delhi. He is an Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers and was awarded the Lord Aldington Banking Research Fellowship.
